A cherished landmark in Silver Spring, the circa-1938 Silver Theatre was fully renovated by Foulger-Pratt Development as a cornerstone of the community’s highly successful downtown revitalization. The project was designed by Gensler, and included a restoration of the original 17,000-square-foot deco-style theater and a new 48,000-square-foot addition housing two stadium theaters, a café, retail areas, and meeting and exhibit space. The state-of-the-art audio/visual technology installed in each theater and the conference room resulted in the building’s accolades as “the world’s most sophisticated theater.” The project included salvaging and reusing many of the historic finishes and fixtures, and required close coordination with the audio/visual consultant to meet THX (Lucasfilm) acoustic design criteria.
